Right Living

I was reading in Titus 2 today and came across the following scripture.

Titus 2:3-5 (New International Version)

3Likewise, teach the older women to be reverent in the way they live, not to be slanderers or addicted to much wine, but to teach what is good. 4Then they can train the younger women to love their husbands and children, 5to be self-controlled and pure, to be busy at home, to be kind, and to be subject to their husbands, so that no one will malign the word of God.

I like to use several different versions when I am researching scripture, because let's face it sometimes it is hard to understand! So here is the Message version of that same verse.

Titus 2:3-5 (The Message)

Titus 2

A God-Filled Life
1-6 Your job is to speak out on the things that make for solid doctrine. Guide older men into lives of temperance, dignity, and wisdom, into healthy faith, love, and endurance. Guide older women into lives of reverence so they end up as neither gossips nor drunks, but models of goodness. By looking at them, the younger women will know how to love their husbands and children, be virtuous and pure, keep a good house, be good wives. We don't want anyone looking down on God's Message because of their behavior. Also, guide the young men to live disciplined lives.

Women who were new Christians were to learn how to have harmony in their homes by watching older women who had been Christians for some time. We have the same need today. Younger wives and mothers should learn to live in a Christian manner-loving their husbands and caring for their children-through observing exemplary women of God. If you are of an age or position where people look up to you, make sure that your example is motivating younger believers to live in a way that honors God.

I am sure we can all think of someone who has been this for us. That influence that taught us how we are supposed to live our lives. There are many people who come to my mind as I was growing up. I am very thankful to have been blessed with these women in my life. I can think of a few present day as well. Take the time to thank those people in your lives that have led by a Godly example for you to follow!
