You know what tugs on my ole' heart strings?? The other day on the way to get Cole from Hanover and when I got the the junction going into Salem, there was a young guy hitchhiking. He had a great big back pack on his back, like he just left home or was homeless to begin with. I always wonder how long it has been since they have eaten or showered.
I guess I am sheltered because in lil' ole' Shoals you don't see this often and everytime I do it breaks my heart. Ed tells me I am too sensitive to certain things (this being one of them, not that he is insensitive, just skeptical of a lot). I don't know what it is, I just get to thinking that people in today's world are so skeptical of picking up people on the side of the road. My Dad ALWAYS picked up hitchhikers. Even if we were with him he would take us home and go back and pick them up.
Ed watched a show once about a guy that had a BMW that he parked in a parking garage, walked several blocks and made a killing on the side of the road scamming people. Now, I know that this happens too but you never know. It reminds me of one time when I failed to see what my dear friend Tami did. We were in Vegas eating breakfast and this dirty guy was walking though the tables begging for money or food. I simply said no and Tami said you never know if that might have been Jesus. Now mind you she wasn't scolding me she was just making a statement that really opened my eyes. She then gave him a coupon for a free breakfast sandwich that cost her nothing. I never thought to do that but ever since I have had a heightened sense that we never know when it could be Jesus that we meet.
Matthew 25:34-40
34 “Then the King will say to those on his right, ‘Come, you who are blessed by my Father, inherit the Kingdom prepared for you from the creation of the world.
35 For I was hungry, and you fed me. I was thirsty, and you gave me a drink. I was a stranger, and you invited me into your home.
36 I was naked, and you gave me clothing. I was sick, and you cared for me. I was in prison, and you visited me.’
37 “Then these righteous ones will reply, ‘Lord, when did we ever see you hungry and feed you? Or thirsty and give you something to drink?
38 Or a stranger and show you hospitality? Or naked and give you clothing?
39 When did we ever see you sick or in prison and visit you?’
40 “And the King will say, ‘I tell you the truth, when you did it to one of the least of these my brothers and sisters, you were doing it to me!’
